What exactly is the festival for?  We're organizing this fundraiser to raise money for The Emancipation Network (TEN).  TEN works to empower, educate and integrate survivors of human trafficking, the modern day slave trade.  Currently, there are over 27,000,000 people enslaved around the world.  The majority of these humans enslaved are in India and in African countries.  You can read more about the Emancipation Network at www.madebysurvivors.com.

In February 2010, event co-organizer Janell Hofmann returned from a three week trip to Kolkata India to work with survivors of human trafficking.  She played with them, taught them, showed them love, and laughed with them.  She worked with young girl survivors of sex trafficking.  They went through some of the most horrific scenarios imaginable -- yet they still smile, they are still full of love, and they are still overflowing with hope.  In Janell's words:

"These girls take my breath away.  I was prepared to see trauma survivors.  I was prepared to see healing both emotional and physical.  I was prepared to see sadness and suffering.  I was prepared to be cautious and careful.  Afterall, I was nervous to meet the girls that have lived in my heart and mind as mythological Goddesses of strength and perserverence for so long.  And here they are, their hearts open, the sweet faces of innocent children and it just clicked.  What I was really prepared for - what I absolutely knew to be true - just effortlessly fell into place.  I totally and completely fell head over heels in love."

It is a small world we live in.  And we need to support these young women -- we all have a role to play.  It is the role of being one people, of living in one world.  And we must celebrate their hope.  That is how the Freedom Festival has come to be.  We want to celebrate, with music, and dance, and emotion, and love -- the true power of hope.  The result will be monies raised to support these young girls, these young women -- to support their futures and many futures to come.

DON'T FORGET TO BUY A RAFFLE TICKET FOR ONE OF ROB SURETTE'S PAINTINGS.  For only $15 you can be entered into the Raffle to win one of Rob Surette's paintings.*  His paintings typically sell for $2000+, so this is a GREAT opportunity to get one of his inspirational painting for your home, office or classroom.

We will be featuring and selling products made by the survivors.  You can preview the products here: http://store.madebysurvivors.com/

*In the event that raffle ticket sales are less than 85, we will refund you your raffle ticket price.
